Bennett Handmade is the making adventures of Matthew Bennett. He is also known as A Canadian Woodworker on Youtube, where he shares his knowledge of technique and tooling.
The chairs are handcrafted in a single-artisan studio located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Although pieces may share a general design, each piece is effectively ‘one of a kind’, and will tell the story of its making by the human hand. Hand-crafted means the ambitions and passion of a real person, and contains all of their markings, slight errors and creative vision.
A Love of Wood
I believe that we are all attracted to different substances in our natural, physical world. For some it is the sheen of metal, the transparency of glass, or the texture of fine fabric. For myself, it is wood in all its species and forms.
There’s something about the smoothness of finely sanded wood fibres that I never tire of. The endless variety of tree species, from hardwood to softwood. Wood is a warm material, always gentle to the touch even in cold climates. It stimulates me to shape it and work it. I hope to share that excitement in all of my pieces.
